Guide on How to Play and the complete list of Modifiers

Clash Royale has struck gold while experimenting with new game modes because Chaos Mode is easily one of the most unique additions in recent updates. Introduced during Season 81, this limited-time mode completely changes how matches unfold by adding special upgrades to cards during battle.

Instead of every troop behaving the same way from start to finish, Chaos Mode lets players upgrade their cards mid-match, unlocking strange and powerful effects. I know there are still some curious folks who want to know about his mode completely, so here I am dropping by to guide you with the Chaos mode in Clash Royale, how to play it, the list of Modifiers you can choose from, and, of course, some tips and tricks.

How Chaos Mode works in Clash Royale

Chaos Mode still follows the core Clash Royale format: you build a deck of eight cards and battle in a standard arena. However, the card pool is restricted, with 50 specific cards available for everyone, all capped at Level 11 to keep matches balanced.

The big twist comes during the match. At several moments throughout the battle, the game pauses briefly, and you are asked to choose between two upgrades. Each upgrade affects one card from the you5 deck and permanently enhances that card for the rest of the match.

These upgrade choices appear roughly every 45 seconds, meaning players usually unlock four upgrades during a normal match, with a possible fifth if the game reaches overtime. Once an upgrade is selected for a card, that card cannot receive another one later.

Tips and Tricks to remember in Clash Royale’s Chaos Mode

Chaos Mode can feel overwhelming at first because so many things are happening at once. With modifiers constantly changing how cards behave, matches can swing very quickly. These simple tips will help you understand the mode faster and get some Ws.

1. Build decks with strong modifier potential

Since every card can gain a powerful upgrade, it’s smart to include cards that become very strong once upgraded. Cards like Electro Wizard, Goblin Demolisher, Dart Goblin, Vines, and Golem can become extremely dangerous depending on the modifier you get.

2. Don’t rush your first modifier choice

At the start of the match, you’ll immediately get your first upgrade option. Take a moment to read both choices carefully before selecting one. Sometimes the modifier that looks simple can actually give you a bigger advantage later in the match.

3. Pay attention to your opponent’s modifiers

You can see the modifiers your opponent has selected on the screen. Just click on the icon under their usernames in battle, incase you can’t find it out in the match. Adapting to this makes it more important. For example, if the opponent has a chain Electro Wizard or infinite vines, you’ll need to change how you counter these cards and the pattern of your attack.

4. Focus on modifiers that create pressure

Some modifiers simply make a troop stronger, while others completely change how the card works. The best ones usually create constant pressure, like spawning extra troops, extending range, or adding splash damage.

5. Save your stronger Epic modifier cards

Something I did wrong in the early stages of this mode, and still see my opponents doing, is picking the wrong modifier for a card. Some Epic modifiers are very strong picks, and you should be preparing to get them instead.

For example, The Log has all three good modifiers, but if you pick the Rare modifier of long range, it kills the chance of you getting the Lumberjack one, since you only get one chance. In that case pick the other option and hope you get the Log option back.

If you have understood the Chaos Mode and the modifiers, it is time to pick a deck, so here’s my guide for the Top Decks to use in Clash Royale’s Chaos Mode.
