Join the RPS Historical Group on a special visit to the birthplace of photography, Lacock Abbey, the home of William Henry Fox Talbot, inventor of the negative/positive process of photography. There will be access to the beautiful gardens and parkland of the Abbey which should be resplendent with spring flowers, the Abbey itself including the famous lattice window, and the historical village of Lacock. The museum gallery will be showing a selection from the past three years of the RPS International Photography Exhibition. 2025 marks the Fox Talbot Museum’s fiftieth anniversary year.
The Lacock and North Wiltshire National Turst property curator Andy Cochrane will talk about the history of the Abbey and Talbot, and the National Trust’s plans for the future. Afterwards, Denis Pellerin and Rebecca Sharpe, the curators from the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy (BMAS), will give a stereoscopic 3-D presentation on the history of stereoscopy, including highlights from the collections, with a focus on photographic techniques and applications, and Lacock.
The day runs from 10.15am to 4pm, Tuesday March 4th 2025. Tickets need to be booked in advanced through the Royal Photographic Society website, with prices starting at £9 for RPS Historical Group members, £10 for RPS members, and £12 for non-members. Tickets for the day and the full schedule can be found here.

Events start at 10.15am with a meet at the barn on the High Street, just along from the Fox Talbot Museum (SN15 2LG), where Gilly Read FRPS, Group Chair, will give an introduction to the day.
