Logitech G has revealed that esports is stepping into it’s most defining era yet. Based on their large-scale global research, it’s latest findings states that competitive gaming is now a serious career ambition among Gen Z. Plus, from rising acceptance to record-breaking viewership, esports is growing a lot.
Esports emerges as a serious career choice among Gen Z
According to the study, which surveyed 18,000 people across 12 countries like UK, USA, and more, nearly 8% of the respondents worldwide said they would choose to become a pro gamer if the option to restart career was possible. While the figure may look look small, this figure places pro gaming ahead of careers like politicians, recruiters, and even pro racers.

For Gen Z, this number jumps to 15%, showing just how much the younger audience love esports compared to Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers. Honestly, even I wanted to be one. Plus, more than half of global respondents also believe esports is a legitimate professional path now, with 67% support among Gen Z and and 60% among Millennials.
Countries like Brazil, South Korea, China, and Switzerland shows great support, while parts of Europe are still cautious about it. Even when we look at viewership, like the LOL World Final in 2024 peaking at around 50m global viewers, or live audience of 2025 HOK KPL Grand Finals which filled the Beijing arena with 62,000 spectators, esports now rival traditional sports events.
Financial barriers and social doubts remain but can be tackled
That said, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, as financial risks, intense competition, and even limited parental or societal support, are top concerns among aspiring players. Even so, most believe these challenges can be solved via better media coverage, training facilities, education pathways, and more.
Even on the business side, the global esports audience reached 611n in 2024 and projected to grow further, while the industry is valued at $2.1n with forecasts aiming for $7.5bn by 2030. And, while debate around Olympic recognition still divided opinion, the International Olympic Committee has reaffirmed plans for Olympic Esports Games.

And as Derek Perez, Head of Gaming Communications at Logitech G has noted, “Esports has evolved into a global cultural force, creating meaningful pathways into technology, creativity, and high-performance careers,” I personally feel this shift was much needed since the earliest tournaments 50+ years ago.
So, as this momentum grows, you can check out Logitech G’s new PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE, which introduces its breakthrough Haptic Inductive Trigger System (HITS) for fast, customisable actuation and haptic feedback. Plus, it also offers reduced click latency with advanced HERO 2 sensor and long battery life. You can also visit logitechg.com for more details.
